It's a Boy!!!! Kate Gives Birth to the Future King of England

The announcement came at 8:30pm GMT via press release (before the notice of his arrival was posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace) that Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy. Baby Cambridge was born at 4:24pm GMT and weighed a healthy 8lbs, 6oz.

William & Kate's son will be known as the Prince of Cambridge - the first Prince of Cambridge to be born for more than 190 years.

 

The press release came via 'The British Monarchy' Facebook Page and stated the following:

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm.

 The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz.

 

 The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

 

 The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.

 

 Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.

Notes to editors

 

 1. The medical staff present were Mr Marcus Setchell, Surgeon-Gynaecologist, Mr Guy Thorpe-Beeston, Obstetrician and Dr Sunit Godambe, Consultant Neonatologist at St. Mary’s Hospital.

 

 2. The names of the baby will be announced in due course

 

 3. The baby is third in the line of succession after His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge. He is styled His Royal Highness Prince [name] of Cambridge.

 

 4. A formal notice of the birth will be posted on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace."

 

The royal couple decided to delay the announcement of the birth for four hours because they wanted to spend time with their baby, and needed to make the necessary phone calls to the Queen and other members of their families.

Shortly after the press release, the couple’s Press Secretary, Ed Perkins, walked out of the hospital to hand the formal proclamation to a waiting driver who sped with it across London to Buckingham Palace.

Once the proclamation reached the palace, the Queen's Press Secretary Ailsa Anderson and Badar Azim, a footman, placed the official document on the gilded easel. It was the same easel used to announce the birth of William.

The doctors played one of the biggest roles in this event. They were Dr. Guy Thorpe-Beeston,a specialist in high-risk pregnancies and dealing with women who have had repeated miscarriages, Dr. Marcus Setchell, the queens former gynecologist, and Dr. Alan Farthing, the queen's current gynecologist and surgeon.
